Being an observant person, I am constantly aware and stunned by the beauty and grandeur of Nature. I especially enjoy the newborn sunlight each day as it rises and tickles the foliage around it. Season after season, we are blessed with brief encounters with rare butterflies, hummingbirds, and other small creatures of nature. I can view God's ever-changing world right outside my window. I've been an avid gardener since childhood, fruitlessly digging into the hard red shale so common in the part of New Jersey where I grew up. But perseverance is one attribute I can claim.
I took every art and drawing class offered in school, junior high school and high school. I graduated with a BFA degree from Beaver College, Jenkintown, PA., which is now known as Arcadia University in Glenside, PA. A very good little college, especially in the arts and only 20 minutes by train into the heart of "Philly." What wonderful opportunities we had to study art and architecture.
I worked for ten years as an illustrator in Washington, DC, Wichita, and Kansas City. And after the fourth child arrived in short order, we settled in Johnson County and I managed to squeeze in some hours for painting whenever possible. I also took courses at the Kansas City Art Institute, Johnson County Community College, with Philomene Bennett, Donna Aldridge and others. I also attended many workshops.
After working with different mediums, I work now almost exclusively in acrylics. I love the deep intensity and brilliance of the colors, and the ease in cleaning them up.
I enjoy many different venues.....landscapes, preferably plein aire, still life set-ups, abstract expressionism, and just something off the top of my head. The whole world is out there to see, to capture on canvas, and to enjoy!
My perseverance has rewarded me with several awards recently, since although I've been painting all my life, I have not "shown" any works until recently: Best of Show twice at the Greater Kansas City Artist Association; three Featured Artist Shows; selected for Juried Shows; and many one-woman exhibitions.
I am active with the Greater Kansas City Artists Association, the Senior Arts Council, Kansas City Artists Coalition, and Images Art Gallery. My drive is to improve and become a better artist........and have fun doing it!
